Featured Treatment: Shiatsu
During the past 30 years, Shiatsu has gained an increasing reputation in the UK as a therapy that it is not only very effective but is experienced as nurturing and supportive and a pleasure to receive.
In addition to musculo-skeletal problems such as back pain, neck and shoulder pain and joint stiffness, Shiatsu can also help with fatigue, indigestion, menstrual problems, depression and various emotional issues.
Further to being clinically effective with Shiatsu my aim is to assist clients to a better understanding in maintaining and developing their level of health and to avoid repeating the same physical or emotional imbalances.
The ancient and wise traditions of Shiatsu then becomes a means of personal empowerment and self-confidence. Advice may be given on posture, breathing, self-treatment exercises, diet and positive thinking.
Shiatsu is a ‘hands-on’ experience in the form of a deep energy massage. Sessions last about an hour with the client lying fully clothed on a mat or futon. It is a good idea to wear loose clothing and to avoid eating a heavy meal before receiving Shiatsu. There is frequently a feeling of increased vitality after a session: clients feel invigorated yet relaxed.
Shiatsu technique can vary from strong to firm to light, depending on a client’s individual needs. It can therefore be used to help a wide range of ages and conditions and usually leads to improved well being both physically and mentally.
The SHIATSU practitioner at the Centre is Neil Gulliver (MRSS(T)).
Featured Treatment: Body Balance
Body Balance is a gentle touch technique that works on the body’s energy lines. Body Balance uses gentle massage on certain points of the body, usually starting with the feet or hands and moving up the body, and ending with the head.
Applying pressure and gently holding key points on the body helps the energy flow better within the body. Energy that is blocked can be made to flow more freely.
Most people experience a sense of well being after Body Balance; it can be relaxing and energising at the same time. Some people say it helps them feel more centered and grounded.
Because it unblocks energy, people often find it helps with problems like indigestion, headaches, sinus blockage, menstrual problems and some injuries. However, Body Balance is an holistic therapy that is very individually based and so it can help people with a whole variety of conditions, physical and emotional.
During a Body Balance session you will be asked some questions about your general health, then you will lie on a couch fully clothed with your shoes off. I will ask you to relax and tune into your body so you are aware of your body’s responses to the body work.
Some people find this difficult, if so I ask them to do some deep breathing and focusing work first, which usually helps.
A Body Balance session normally lasts about three quarters of an hour and costs £28. I also use Body Balance as part of my homoeopathic practice.
Susan Paul (BA LCH MARH HSA Reg) is the Body Balance practitioner at the Centre. She is also a qualified homoeopath and Flower Essence Therapist.
